World Hunger Solutions

Hunger is a worldwide issue with many possible solutions. Many charities and organizations have multiple ways that they help.
Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East are all places that all need hunger relief. “It is estimated that 40,000 people die each day from hunger and nutrition-related illnesses all around the world” (ProQuest Staff). Organizations such as CRS, WFP, Oxfam, and UNICEF have put forth the effort to increase food aid to these affected areas.
Collecting money is one way that proves to be effective when trying to raise money for the fight to end world hunger. Anyone can propose the idea to his or her school if he or she could raise money to put forth to an organization and can also do the same thing at your church or religious place. In many of these situations the charities or organizations receive lots of money (Amos).
The Catholic Relief Service and the World Food Programme both provide emergency food aid and natural disaster response. Natural disasters can be very serious in countries that are already starving. The effects of these disasters can destroy crops or buildings or can slow down transportation of food. The solution to this problem is for organizations to respond by bringing more food or seed for crops for the farmers whose crops got destroyed.
Having an education is critical if people in starving countries want a way to stay healthy and get money for food. If anyone doesn’t have an education, it is really hard to find a stable job no matter where he or she lives. The CRS reports that they “support education activities in three areas: crisis areas, areas that are transitioning from a crisis to stability, and relatively stable areas.” They teach basic education, and maternal and health education. This can be for teachers or for aspiring doctors living in the area having problems. The Catholic Relief Service also provides school meals which encourage kids to come to school so they can start out having an education instead of waiting.
The World Food Programme gives treatment for diseases such as HIV/AIDS. When the treatment works it is easier for people to recover and become nourished. WFP says “People living with HIV need more calories and nutrients in their diet, but they already may have low appetites and be less able to absorb the nutrients in their food,” which is a big problem if they are already malnourished before having HIV. WFP’s food and nutrition support plays a very important role in reducing food insecurity and malnutrition caused by HIV.
Many charities are working hard to solve the global hunger problem in affected areas and so far hunger seems to be easing.

World Hunger

WELCOME
In these posts you will find different perspectives and viewpoints about one of the most important and biggest topics all round the world; world hunger. In these posts you will learn why people think we should be helping more and even why we shouldn’t be helping.

In the article “The Time is Right to End World Hunger” by The National Catholic Reporter, they try to persuade people to start stepping up and helping people who are starving. The National Catholic Reporter provides this information in a cause and effect format addressing people who believe ending world hunger is a good thing and should happen soon. The author believes no system or government should tolerate a world where more than one billion people are struggling to get food or nutrition into their diet. They state that “people should make global equality a priority, and knows that in the future ending world hunger can be reality if we strive to make it happen.” I know that The Catholic Reporter is a reliable source because there is a website showing what they do and that it is an organization. They use ethos and pathos to persuade the readers by giving ethical facts and opinions, but also make the readers feel bad if they aren’t helping with world hunger.

In the article “The Shortage Isn’t Food, Its Democracy” written by Sojourners attempts to persuade people who go over to countries with hunger, to stop and let the country fix itself and change the way they run things. They think that the main reason there is a food shortage is all due to the democracy of the country. People always go to these countries to help but Sojourners thinks the country needs to help itself and change its own government sp they can get better. This article is written in a problem and solution text structure. Sojourners is a reliable source because they have been around for more than 40 years and the article was written in July of 2011. They use logos to persuade people to instead of helping hunger we help them build a better democracy. They argue that “that the countries with hunger problems have bad democracy and that’s what’s not providing food for starving people.”

In the article “Who will Bail out the World?” written by Arif Husain persuades readers to not stop working until the hungery all around the world have food. Arif uses a descriptive text structure when presenting all its facts in paragraphs. The author uses ethos to appeal to readers who really care and want to make a difference about this topic. I know this is a reliable source because I found out Arif Husain is a food advisor at the United Nations World Food Program. This article doesn’t present any conflicting evidence or other opinions. At the end he concludes with this “The world already has invested deeply in improving the lives of the hundreds of millions who still go hungry. Now is not the time to default on their future well being.”
